Most road-trippers reach their destination, but reports show the trouble is rarely a total failure. It shows up as stalls that are down, lines at sites that are usually quiet, and payment or app errors that leave a car sitting at a working charger. One owner waited about two hours; another got through only because a Level 2 charger was nearby. A 20% buffer is the common advice.
Speed is the other recurring surprise. Several owners found stalls advertised at 150 kW or more delivering well under half that, especially in the cold or at shared units, so short stops stretched out. Non-Tesla drivers also described Supercharger adapters and software settings working inconsistently, sometimes pushing them back to other networks.
