Not the outcome I expected two years into owning this thing. I had an electrician put in a NEMA 14-50 in my garage in Needham back in 2024, dedicated circuit, everything to code as far as I know, and mounted an Emporia charger right next to it. Charger's rated around 45 lbs including the cable management, and it's been sitting there on that same 14-50 pigtail this whole time. Started noticing about a month ago it's sagging, and when I actually got a level on it, the front edge has dropped what I'd estimate is 12-15 degrees off vertical. Pulled the cover plate off out of curiosity and there are hairline cracks radiating from two of the screw holes.
Called Emporia support and the answer was basically "yeah, add a wall bracket," like this is expected wear and not a problem with the outlet itself. I get that any commercial outlet cover is going to take some abuse, but this feels like the plug end of a 240V circuit shouldn't be doing double duty as a shelf bracket for a 45 lb appliance. Is this just what happens with any heavier hardwired-adjacent charger over a couple years, or did I get unlucky with a bad install? Wondering if I should've gone with something that puts less permanent weight on the outlet in the first place.
