Been going down a rabbit hole reading old electrical forum threads the last couple weeks trying to figure out what to actually install before I commit to a charger. Keep running into the same claim repeated almost word for word across different threads: a 6-50 receptacle has fewer contact points than a 14-50 (no neutral), so a heavy wall-mount charger sitting on a 6-50 long-term supposedly wears the terminals faster than the same charger on a 14-50. Nobody citing this ever seems to link an actual source, it's just stated as accepted fact.
Before I make a decision for my install out here near Tacoma, I want to know if this is a real, observed failure mode or if it's turned into one of those things that gets repeated in every thread until it sounds true. Anyone here, especially electricians who've actually pulled a burned or worn 6-50 that had an EV charger on it, seen this play out for real? Trying to separate genuine documented wear from Reddit telephone game before I pick hardware.
