My wife's SUV lease ended in June and she went electric too, so we went from one EV in the driveway to two almost overnight. I've got a 14-50 outlet already installed from when I first bought mine two years ago — had an electrician run it for around $900 including a little panel work. Never needed anything more than that until now.
Only outlet out there, and running a second circuit is quoted between $1,100 and $1,400 depending on which of the three guys I called actually shows up first. Money's tight this year between the new car payment and everything else, so I've been looking at Y splitter adapters that turn one 14-50 into two, figured we could alternate cars or maybe even plug both in overnight since neither of us drives more than 30 miles most days.
Found a few on Amazon in the $80-150 range, one specifically marketed for "dual EV charging." Before I order one, is this a reasonable way to run two cars off one outlet, or am I about to do something dumb? Made enough beginner mistakes with this car already and wanted to ask first this time.
