Been using a portable Level 2 unit plugged into our dryer's 14-30 outlet every night for about six months now, no issues that I noticed day to day — charge starts, car's full by morning, unplug, done. Went out last week to unplug and actually looked closely at the outlet for the first time in a while, and there's visible brown/tan discoloration on the plate around two of the terminal screws, kind of a scorched look. Nothing melted, no smell, breaker never tripped, but it's clearly not supposed to look like that.
Charger's one of the heavier portable units, has some real weight right at the plug end, maybe 4 lbs including the cord bend. Called an electrician here in Tulsa and he quoted $180 to swap the whole outlet and said he wants to check the wiring behind it too while he's in there. Trying to figure out if this is normal wear from a dryer outlet doing something it wasn't really built for, if it's on the charger's connector design, or if the outlet was probably already old and this was going to happen with or without an EV involved.
