Charging off my garage wall outlet -- is anyone actually fine with this?

Bought used six months ago, haven't upgraded the outlet yet. I'm getting maybe 40 miles overnight off the regular garage plug. My commute is 22 miles round-trip, so on paper I'm fine -- but every weekend errand puts a small dent in the buffer and by Sunday night I'm doing math. Fine for the commute. Nervous about anything more. If we drive to my in-laws (140 miles), I'm arriving with 20% and hoping their neighbor lets me plug in the alley outlet again. The electrician quote for a 240V run was $1,800 because my panel is on the opposite side of the house. Not doing that this year. So I'm curious -- anyone actually running long-term off just the wall outlet? Do you eventually give up or does it work out if your driving pattern stays predictable?

Level 1 is fine for your commute. I would have stayed on it if my install had cost that much. A few in-law trips a year isn't worth $1800 to me.

I wouldn't call $1800 crazy for a run across the house. Back in 2018 I got quoted $1500 for one 50A line about 20 feet from the panel. Most of that cost is labor, not wire. That said, if you're getting 40 miles a night against a 22 mile commute, you can afford to wait.

My wife's Leaf ran on a regular outlet for most of the first year we had it, and for her commute it was fine. What finally got us to put in a Level 2 was adding a second EV. With one car and 22 miles a day, I would keep doing what you are doing.

I charged my ID.4 off a regular outlet at home for almost the whole time I had it. It never got old. Free L2 at places I was already going covered the rest.
