Do NACS to CCS adapters work on non-Tesla DCFC stations?

Short answer for a CHAdeMO owner: there isn't a single reliable lookup, and "compatible" on an adapter listing usually only means the plug fits. The NACS transition is a mess because you can't tell by looking whether a Tesla-shaped plug is speaking CCS signaling or the old Tesla single wire CANbus. Same connector, different protocol. So a NACS adapter that works on one site can fail on another, and the app's "compatible" tag doesn't tell you which you're dealing with. For CHAdeMO specifically I wouldn't count on anything new being built for it. Plan on the existing CHAdeMO sites shrinking.

Good point on checking the plug first. I had an Emporia hardwired at my new place and the cable on it turned out to be NACS, while my Ioniq 5 needs J1772. Nobody warned me to check before the electrician finished. Still sorting out the cheapest fix, since I'm not sure a hardwired unit can just be uninstalled and returned.

Same experience on my Leaf S+, and it's not just plug trouble. I tried an EVGo with two CHAdeMO plugs at a Whole Foods and it shut off mid-charge twice. Each failed attempt put a $55 hold on my card, so I was over $200 in holds. Check recent comments like you said, but I'd also look at how the network handles failed sessions before you count on it.

The part that made me stop blaming site settings was that mine also failed at a hotel Destination Charger, on top of three Superchargers. That was a third-party Tesla-to-CCS adapter off Amazon, and the listing said compatible. Has anyone gotten a cheap adapter to work at a Destination Charger? I can't tell if that's a different handshake or if the adapter was just junk.

Same kind of thing on my Bolt at a magic dock Supercharger listed as compatible. Car sat on "charging is initiating" with some buzzing for a minute or two, then "unable to charge," on two different stalls. I never tried kicking it off from the Tesla app, so I'll try that next time.

I tried an AZ CCS1 adapter on my Leaf at a Rivian charger. It synced with the station and started, then stopped charging right after. I never figured out why, so I can't say if it was the adapter or the site.

Same problem with Tesla's wall connectors, the page makes it easy to miss which cable end you're getting. I've got a Lyriq with a J1772 socket and was eyeing the cheaper NACS one with an adapter, but after this thread I'm leaning toward the J1772 version. Is the adapter at the car end a hassle day to day?
