Only have a dryer outlet in the garage — is adapting it for EV charging actually safe?

Dryer outlets—especially older 10-30 type—have no ground, just two hots and a neutral. Using adapters skips code requirements (NEC 625.44) and is not compliant. Doesn't matter what state you're in at this point — treat it as continuous, full stop. A new dedicated circuit runs $800-1500 around here depending on trench/wall run length, and that's the whole fix; there's no adapter or "grounding kit" that gets you out of needing an actual bond back to the panel. If anyone's got a specific inspector or AHJ that's still signing off on adapter setups, that would be worth flagging — it hasn't been standard practice in years.
